Manuscript Submission Guidelines

We specialize in works of all genres by or about queer writers of color who are concerned about social, spiritual, sexual, racial and political issues. We invite submissions from writers from any genre and do not discriminate on the basis of sexuality. We are willing to consider book inquiries and unsolicited manuscripts.

Please note the following before submitting a query:

Inquiry

Submit a query letter detailing your nonfiction idea, the theme(s) of your poetry book, your children’s book idea, or your novel’s plot. Indicate whether you ARE simultaneously SUBMITTING your query to other publishers. If you are sending a manuscript, write DO NOT BEND on the cover of the envelope.

How to Send

When submitting include a self-addressed, stamped #10-size envelope for reply and/or provide us with your email address. Please make sure your SASE has appropriate postage and your name and address in both the sender and receiver sections. Unfortunately we will NOT take into consideration any queries that do not include a SASE or a valid email address.

Decision Time

We require six months to review your manuscript for possible publication with the press. Due to the high number of submissions we receive, we cannot offer individual critiques of rejected manuscripts or pitches.

If you are interested in a critique or overview of your manuscript, we offer individual consultations for a fee. Send information about your project to info@vepress.com and we will contact you directly about your specific interests.
